Towards a Correlation between Long-Term Seawater Intrusion Response and Water Level Fluctuations
Collaboration: Queen’s University Belfast, Brunel University London, and Assiut University.
This study is the first attempt to identify the correlation between water table-sea level variations and the main parameters characterizing saline water intrusion under controlled laboratory conditions, which is of great significance from the point of view of water resources management in coastal areas.

ABOUT
Antoifi was born in France, of parents originally from the Comoro Islands. He grew up in Epinay Sur Seine, a city in Paris greater area. Young orphan following the early passing away of his father, Antoifi was able to remain relatively focused throughout his studies, both in high school and university. In 2012, his strong desire to pursue an international career motivated Antoifi to undertake a venture trip to London, with only a Backpack. The goal was to create opportunities to practice English and to attempt to make English-speaking friends with whom he could later practice over the phone following his return to France. That method not only enabled Antoifi to get the competitive Erasmus scholarship which required a high level of English proficiency, but has also led the foundation for the creation of BeemyBubble, the best online plateform to improve English fluency practically and effectively.
In 2013, Antoifi travelled to the UK under the Erasmus program to complete a Master in Civil Engineering with a dominant specialization in water-related topics at Queen’s University Belfast. Considering his enthusiasm for groundwater and the high overall grades (Distinction) he could achieve despite the language barrier, Antoifi was offered a generous scholarship by Queen’s University Belfast to undertake research on the interaction between the underground freshwater and seawater occurring in coastal areas in 2014. He completed his PhD Thesis in less than three years, with three papers already published in top scientific journals by the time of his viva exam.
As a scientist, Antoifi’s research interests are now mostly focused on the issue of seawater intrusion in coastal groundwater, which defines the contamination of coastal groundwater by oceanic saline water. This major environmental problem has resulted in the abandonment of many water wells and the loss of precious groundwater resources in numerous coastal zones and Islands around the world. His research outputs were communicated in various prestigious scientific journals and presented at many international conferences hosted in various countries, including Australia, Ireland, Poland, Austria, Portugal, and the UK.
